Air Force Drops 3-0 Match to Oklahoma

GREELEY, Colo. - Combining for 22 of the team's 32 kills, freshman Felicia Clement and junior Cami Richan led the Air Force volleyball team during a 3-0 loss to Oklahoma on Friday morning at the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic in Greeley, Colo. The Falcons fell to 1-3 on the short season after falling in straight 25-17, 25-23, 25-13 sets to the Sooners, who improved to 4-0.

Sophomore Ayesha Hein tallied the Falcons' first point of the match, but Air Force quickly found itself trailing 7-2. Clement and Richan added scores, but the Sooners extended their lead to 11-4. A kill from sophomore Hillary Keltner put the Falcons at the 10-point mark and sparked a 4-1 run that cut Oklahoma's lead to five (18-13). Richan added a kill and sophomore Emma Dridge put down an ace during that stretch. Richan added two more kills, while Clement and Hein each added one, but the Sooners took the first set 25-17.

Freshman Rebecca Bates recorded her first collegiate service ace, but Air Force found itself trailing Oklahoma 7-2 to start the second set. Clement, Hein and Richan combined for five of the Falcons' next eight points, as the Falcons trailed by six (16-10). Hein and Clement posted back-to-back kills to cut the Falcons' deficit to three (16-13). Richan helped Air Force move within two after recording a kill and assisting with Hein on a block. She added another pair of kills, while an Oklahoma error brought the Falcons back within two (22-20). Additional kills from Clement kept Air Force within two at the 23-21 and 24-22 marks, but OU claimed the final point for the 25-23 win.

Despite kills from Richan and Clement, Air Force trailed 7-2 to open the third set. Junior Josalynn Wise added an ace, while a kill from Hein brought the score to within two (8-6). Richan collected a kill to keep the score within two at 9-7 and teamed up for a block with freshman Taylor Parker to bring the Falcons within one (11-10). Freshman Raquel Rosas collected a kills and assisted on a block with Hein, but the Sooners closed out the match on a 10-2 run to earn the 25-13 victory.

Senior Maiya Perich recorded 12 digs to become just the second Division I player at Air Force to record 900 digs in a career (904 total). Richan and Clement tied for the match lead with 11 kills apiece, while Keltner assisted on 29 of the team's 32 kills. The team hit over .200 during the first two sets for a .143 match average. Hein led the team with three blocks (all assisted), while Dridge, Wise and Bates added service aces.

Air Force returns to action at the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic later today, when it takes on North Dakota State at 4:30 p.m.
