PORTLAND ( - The UNLV Rebels (2-2) suffered a 3-1 setback to the Idaho State Bengals (2-3) on Friday night from the Chiles Center in Portland, Ore. The Bengals claimed the match by set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 25-18, 25-16 in the Rebels' first match of the Nike Portland Invitational.

ISU threw down five more kills than UNLV in the match with both squads tallying 20 errors on 118 swings. The Bengals hit .254 for the match behind three sets with .333 or better hitting efficiencies. The Rebels, on the other hand, had two sets above the .292 mark, but two others below .192 in the match.

UNLV was led offensively by a trio of attackers that notched double digits in kills. Madeline Westman and Candice Thomas tied for the team lead with 11 apiece behind .435 and .381 hitting efficiencies, respectively. Each player was effective at the net with the former recording five blocks to the latter's six putbacks. Daryn Glenn threw down 10 kills as well as contributing seven digs, two blocks and an assist.

Kinsey Caldwell dished out a match-high 37 assists to go along with her six digs, four blocks, three kills and three aces.

Defensively, Ceannia Kincade, who had four kills, two assists and two blocks, led the Rebels in digs with 10.

The Bengals got a double-double from Lori Mendenhall, who achieved the feat with a combination of 36 assists and 10 digs. Mendenhall also had three kills, two blocks and one ace.

Breanne Van Every tallied a match-high 15 kills off .393 hitting, and she also had six digs, two aces and two blocks.

Kyee Searle joined Mendenhall in dig double digits with her 13 digs being the most by a player in the match.

The Rebels return to action on Saturday with a pair of contests at the Nike Portland Invitational. They open up the day with an 11:00 am affair with the Tennessee State Tigers before playing in the tournament's finale against Portland at 7:30 pm.
