Rebels Sail Past The Blue Raiders

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (UNLVRebels.com) - After playing two hard-fought matches at the Louisville Invitational, the UNLV volleyball team (7-5) swept past the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (3-12) on Saturday in Louisville, Ky. The Rebels won the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.
UNLV out-hit MTSU .260 to .112 behind a 15-kill advantage (45-30) off a difference of only two swings (100-98). Both teams committed 19 errors in the match. The Rebels averaged set hitting efficiencies between .206 (third) and .297 (first), while the Blue Raiders topped out at .171 (second).
Daryn Glenn and Madeline Westman led the Rebel offense to victory behind identical 12-kill efforts. Glenn added eight digs and one assisted blocks, while Westman chipped in five blocks (one solo), one dig and one assist.
Kinsey Caldwell dished out a match-high 34 digs to go along with eight digs, two assisted blocks and one kill. Caldwell was one of four Rebels to rack up eight digs in the match, as she was joined by Glenn, Sekola Falemaka and Allison Davies.
The Blue Raiders' got a 13-kill performance from Ashley Adams, who also added three blocks (two solo), three digs and two aces. Shelby Anderton led the team in assists with 29. Bri McCombs was the top defensive player for MTSU with her eight digs.
UNLV opens up Mountain West action this week with trips to the USAF Academy, Colo., and Boise, Idaho. The Rebels will face Air Force on Thursday night prior to a tussle with Boise State on Saturday evening. Both matches are set for 6:00 pm MT (7:00 pm PT) first serves.
