`Dogs Defeat Lobos in Fifth Sets

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Fresno State volleyball team went undefeated over the weekend after defeating New Mexico in five sets (25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10). The Bulldogs (15-8, 6-3 MW) beat CSU Bakersfield earlier in the weekend to start the winning streak.
Outside hitter Korrin Wild recorded her 12th double-double of the year with 10 kills and 16 digs, while Marissa Brand also contributed 12 kills and 16 kills for her 12th double-double of the season. Wild also led with two service aces bringing her season total to a league-high 39 aces. Defensively, libero Christina Lee led the `Dogs with 19 digs.
The Bulldogs scored first in the opening set, but the Lobos took a lead with a quick 3-0 run. The first set stayed close with both teams looking to take a commanding lead and saw NUMBER lead changes. Late in the set, the `Dogs took a four-point advantage by scoring four unanswered points leading New Mexico 21-17. Fresno State won the opening set 25-20.
In the second set, the Bulldogs opened with a 4-1 run and increased their lead to 14-5 with a 10-4 run. The `Dogs maintained a 10-point lead for most of the second set. Fresno State cruised to a 25-13 victory in the second set.
After two sets, Albertson led the `Dogs hitting .700 with eight kills. Murdock also contributed eight kills in the first two sets and hit .538. Murdock and Callahan led the team with four blocks.
The third set stayed close tied 7-7 to start. The Lobos took a 15-9 lead with a 7-2 run. The Bulldogs took back the lead 18-17 with an 8-2 run led by four kills from Callahan.
The fourth set started out close, but New Mexico pulled ahead with 12-8 lead over the Bulldogs. NM maintained a four-point advantage for most of the set. A 4-1 run by the `Dogs shortened the Lobos lead 24-21.The Lobos won the fourth set 25-21 forcing a final deciding set.
Fresno State opened the final set with a 7-3 run. The Bulldogs lead increased to 13-8 as the fifth set continued. The `Dogs won the final set 15-10 to win the match 3-2 over New Mexico. The Bulldogs own a 6-3 record in matches that go to five sets.
