LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Siga Appelgate has signed a financial aid agreement and has transferred to UNLV to become a member of the Rebel volleyball program, head coach Cindy Fredrick announced Monday.

Appelgate, a 6-1 outside hitter, is transferring to UNLV from the University of the Pacific, where she played volleyball during the 2010 and '11 seasons.

"We're very pleased to have Siga join the Rebel Volleyball team," said Fredrick. "She brings a wealth of successful experiences having played for Erin Hill at Green Valley High School, and earning 2010 Nevada Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year honors. We expect Siga to add depth and competition in the front row at both the left and right side."

At Pacific, Appelgate was a member of teams that won 18 matches each of the past two seasons and combined for a 36-23 overall record. She participated in 45 matches and a total of 120 sets. In all, she tallied 78 digs, 66 kills, 17 aces, 17 blocks and nine assists playing for the Tigers. In a span of two matches in 2010, she notched career highs in both blocks (four) and kills (13) against Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly, respectively. This past season, she registered a career-best effort in digs with nine vs. Army.

A Las Vegas native and 2010 Green Valley High School graduate, Appelgate led the Gators to the championship match in the 4A State finals behind a team-best 488 kills and 51 aces. Her 488 kills ranked as the most by a player in the state, which helped her to all-State, All-Sunrise and All-Southeast League accolades, as well as, her previously mentioned player of the year selection.
