Volleyball's Grass Bash Raises $5K for UNM Children's Hospital

May 11, 2012

Albuquerque, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico volleyball program wrapped up its spring season by raising $5,000 at the fifth annual Grass Bash held at Johnson Fields on April 21-22, 2011.

All of the proceeds from the Grass Bash will be donated to the UNM's Children's Hospital. Lobo senior-to-be Jordan Russell recently presented Daniel Jaecks, Associate Director of Development for UNM Hospitals, with a $5,000 check to go towards the efforts of UNMCH.

"When the community comes together and is able to make a difference, it's awesome," Jaecks said. "When student-athletes come together, it's that much more special I think. This really makes a difference in the lives of thousands of sick and injured New Mexico children."

There were over 160 teams that participated in the various divisions of the volleyball tournament this year; including past and present Lobo Volleyball players.

When it was all said and done, Lobos' head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson was very proud of the way his team has involved itself with the community.

"Our team has made a huge commitment to the community," Nelson said. "The Grass Bash is such a great event. The whole thing is designed to pretty much give everything right back that we bring in, it is a great way to wrap up our year."
