Recruiting Class Recognized

June 3, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team's incoming freshmen class has been ranked as one of the top 55 classes in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.

The Rebels were listed in the "Highest Honorable Mention" category along with fellow Mountain West foes and 2012 NCAA Tournament participants Colorado State and San Diego State. Nebraska was the consensus No. 1 selection in a poll that ranked the top 30 classes, as voted on by more than 120 collegiate coaches. The MW trio fell in a category that placed the next 25 classes in a group from 31st through 55th.

"It's nice to see the 2013 recruiting class recognized," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "We all know that the most important thing is for the talent on paper to translate on to the court. We are excited to see what happens this fall."

The volleyball program added three signees in the fall signing period - Megan Dempsey (outside hitter), Sadie Stutzman (middle blocker/defensive specialist) and Alyssa Wing (middle blocker/outside hitter) - before adding Julia Topor (outside hitter) in May.

UNLV is coming off an 18-11 season and a third-place finish in the Mountain West after a 10-6 league play in 2012. Besides the addition of the four freshmen, the team returns eight letterwinners from last year's edition, including senior-to-be Madeline Westman - a two-time all-conference performer.
