SDSU To Host Colorado State & Wyoming This Week

San Diego will conclude its current three-match home stand with a pair of Mountain West matches this week. The Aztecs will face preseason conference favorite Colorado State on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 pm. on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. Two days later (Saturday, Oct. 27) the Aztecs host Wyoming in a match scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
The Aztecs' all-time record against Colorado State stands at 14-33 since the teams met in the second round of pool play at the 1980 AIAW Championships Regionals in Santa Barbara. The Rams have won the last 22 matches in a row against the Aztecs and 31 of the last 32 contests including a three-set sweep in Fort Collins earlier this season. SDSU's last victory in the series came in 2002 in San Diego. The Aztecs are 8-14 vs. the Rams at home, 5-17 away and 1-2 at neutral sites.
San Diego State holds a 32-11 lead in its series with Wyoming since the teams first met in 1984. More recently, the Aztecs are 10-9 vs. the Cowgirls since the 2003 season including a splitting a pair of matches last season. The Aztecs are 19-1 vs. the Cowgirls in San Diego, 11-10 in Laramie and 2-0 on neutral courts. SDSU defeated Wyoming in five sets in Laramie in late September.
FOUCH'S BEST EFFORTS
Setter Johnna Fouch set career-highs with six kills and 8.5 points in the three-set victory at UC Irvine last week (Oct. 16). Her three blocks vs. New Mexico two days later Oct. 18 tied her 2012 season best. She is hitting .488 from her setter position with only one attack error in 43 attempts. Fouch recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 48 assists and 10 digs at Air Force on Oct. 13.
HANNASCH LEADS OFFENSE
Over SDSU's last eight matches, Andrea Hannasch has averaged 3.14 kills, 1.00 blocks and 1.43 digs per set. Her season average of 3.56 points per set leads the Aztecs. She tied her season high with 19 kills in the win over New Mexico last Thursday (Oct. 18). Her 23.0 points in that match also tied her season-best effort.
HARRIS ON THE BLOCK
Emily Harris has emerged as the team's leading blocker averaging 1.34 per set. With 111 blocks assists she is only 15 away from cracking the SDSU top 10 list for block assists in a season. She notched a career-high 10 block assists at Air Force on Oct. 13. Over SDSU's last six matches she has averaged 1.59 blocks per set. She also recorded 1.63 kills per set over those six contests.
Raegan Shelton averaged 3.38 kills per set in SDSU's matches at UC Irvine (Oct. 16) and vs. New Mexico (Oct. 18) last week. Her 20 kills against Air Force on Oct. 13 matched her season high that she previously recorded vs. UNLV on Oct. 7. She had a career- season-high 24.0 points in that win vs. the Falcons. She has led SDSU in kills in each of the five of the last six matches. Her average during that run is 3.70 kills per game. In league matches she ranks eighth at 3.28 kills per set and ninth with a mark of 3.90 points per set.
San Diego State has played nine five-set matches this season and has a record of 7-2 in those contests. The Aztecs' mark for most five-set contests in a season is 11 during the 1989 campaign. The last time SDSU had as many as nine five-set matches in a season was in 1988 and this is the seventh time in program history that they have reached that figure.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS
Three current Aztecs moved into the top 10 on the SDSU career lists in various categories last season and continue to move up the charts.
*** Andrea Hannasch's three-year total of 439 block assists moves her into the number-two spot on the SDSU all-time list. The all-time leader is Jennifer Miller (1989-92) with 480 block assists.
*** Kristi Jackels has compiled 1,693 digs during her time as an Aztec to rank second in that category. Aime Cordeiro (2004-07) is the all-time leader with 1,974 career digs.
*** Setter Johnna Fouch's mark of 3,052 career assists place her fifth. The fourth spot is held by Erin Tomblin (1988-89) with 3,144 assists.
SDSU has won five of its last six matches ... The Aztecs have lost back-to-back matches only once this season ... Kristi Jackels tied her season high with 26 digs in the three-set win at UC Irvine on Oct. 16 ... Setter Johnna Fouch (assists-digs) has recorded four double-doubles this season to lead the team. Outside hitter Michelle Waber (kills-digs) has three and Chloe Mathis (assists-digs) has two while Raegan Shelton has one (kills-digs) ... Andrea Hannasch and Emily Harris are the only two Aztecs to have started every match this season. Senior Kristi Jackels has also been the stating libero for every match in 2012. They are the only three Aztecs to appear in all 86 sets in 2012 ... Courtney Vaccarello had a personal season-high 12 digs at Boise State on Oct. 13 ... Defensive specialist Kyla Oropeza recorded her second kill of the year in the win at Air Force on Oct. 13.
