Rebels Open Up Second Half At New Mexico

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV Rebels open up the second half of the Mountain West season with a road match in Albuquerque against the New Mexico Lobos on Thursday night. UNLV, who defeated UNM earlier this season in Las Vegas, heads to The Duke City with a share of first place in conference standings.

The match between the Rebels and Lobos will be played inside The Pit - the home of the men's and women's basketball programs. UNM volleyball, which has primarily played its matches inside the Johnson Center, played at The Pit during a five-year stretch from 1994-99.

SCOUTING NEW MEXICO: The New Mexico Lobos, who are 18-5 overall, enter the week in a three-way tie for third place in the Mountain West standings with a 5-3 mark. UNM will jump out of MW play and host its in-state rival New Mexico State on Tuesday evening before welcoming UNLV (Thursday) and Fresno State (Saturday) to town.

Last week, the Lobos went 1-1 with a 3-2 loss at San Diego State before a 3-0 sweep at Nevada, Reno. After beginning the season 12-1, UNM has gone 6-4 in its last 10 outings. At home, the Cherry & Silver are 10-1 with one of those wins coming in The Pit against Boise State.

UNM is led by Chantale Riddle (350 kills and 95 blocks), Lexi Ross (27 aces) and Miquella Lovato (350 digs). Hannah Johnson (443 assists) and Jordan Russell (436) split the setting duties for the Lobos and are separated by seven assists.

UNLV leads the all-time series 17-13. Most recently, the Rebels snapped a five-match losing skid to the Lobos earlier this season with a 3-0 sweep in Las Vegas on Sept. 29. The Scarlet & Gray hold an 8-7 advantage on games played in Albuquerque; however, UNM has won the last two and three of the past four meetings.

ON THE SIDELINES: The UNLV Rebels return home to Las Vegas to host the San Diego Aztecs and the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack after two consecutive weeks on the road. Both matches are set for 7:00 pm first serves from the Cox Pavilion.
