Pack at Lobos for Only Match this Week

This Week - Nevada will meet New Mexico, 19-10 (6-6 MW), in its only contest of the week ... In the first meeting between the two teams on October 20, the Lobos won 3-0 (25-20,25-21,25-19) at the Virginia Street Gym ... The match was the first between the two schools ... Chantale Riddle led all players with 16 kills and posted a double-double with 16 digs ... Tessa Lea’ea led all Nevada players with nine kills and four total blocks ... Lea’ea continues to lead the Pack on both sides of the net going into Thursday’s match, as she moved past 300 kills and 130 blocks on the year last week.
Last Week - Nevada welcomed two teams to Reno for its final homestand of 2012, taking on Boise State on Thursday and Air Force on Saturday ... The Pack fell in three sets to Boise State, 3-0 (25-19,25-17,25-19) and in four sets to Air Force, 3-1 (22-25,25-21,32-30,25-18) ... Saturday night was the final home match for three Pack players, as Janelle Batista, Kelly Chang and Elissa Ji took the court for the final time at VSG ... Batista had 19 kills against Air Force to close out her home career ... Last week Tessa Lea’ea had 27 kills to move past 300 and to 316 for the season ... She had 223 as a red-shirt freshman a season ago ... Defensively this season, Lea’ea has been stout at the net with 135 blocks ... To date, she has set career highs for a season in kills, attempts, solo blocks, assisted blocks, total blocks and points.
Three’s Company - Nevada has had three players record at least 10 kills six times this season, most recently against Air Force on Saturday, when Lea’ea (19), Batista (19) and Anxo (10) hit double digits ... The other matches have been ... vs. UNLV on Oct. 4 - Lea’ea (16), Batista (14), Bonnie Paul (12) and Anxo (11) ... vs. Wyoming on Sept. 29 - Lea’ea (18), Batista (14) and Anxo (10) ... vs CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 8 -- Lea’ea (14), Batista (10) and Paul (10) -- ... vs Texas Tech on Sept. 19 -- Lea’ea (21), Batista (15) and Anxo (12) -- ... vs San Diego State on Sept. 22 -- Batista (16), Lea’ea (15) and Anxo (10).
Conference Leader - Lea’ea leads the entire Mountain West in solo blocks at 22, three ahead of Madeline Westman of UNLV. Overall, Lea’ea is third in total blocks (135) and third in blocks per set (1.34).
300 - With 27 kills last weekend, Lea’ea became the first Nevada player to crack the 300-kill mark this season at 316. She is the first Nevada player to do so since Kylie Harrington and Lindsey Baldwin did so in 2010. That season, Harrington had 382 and Baldwin had 329.
Out in Style - Janelle Batista had a stellar day in her final match inside Virginia Street Gym, Saturday, against the Air Force Falcons. She had 19 kills on 35 attacks and committed only three errors to post her best hitting percentage of the season , .457. She also scored 21 points and four assisted blocks.
