Mountain West Sends Two to NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West will be sending multiple women's volleyball teams to the NCAA Tournament for the thirteenth time in 14 seasons. MW co-champions Colorado State and San Diego State have earned bids to the 2012 national postseason event. The Rams will be making their 18th consecutive appearance and 24th overall, while the Aztecs are appearing for the 14th time overall and the first time since 2001.

The Aztecs face West Coast Conference opponent Saint Mary's (17-10) at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, Nov. 29, followed by Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference champion Fairfield (22-8) against host Southern California (27-5) in First Round action. The winners will play at 7 p.m. PT on Friday, Nov. 30, with all matches contested at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. The Second Round winner advances to the Austin Regional, hosted by Texas.

CSU will play Big Ten foe Purdue (21-10) at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 30 for the opportunity to face the winner of Atlantic Coast Conference champion Florida State (27-3) and Colonial Athletic Association champion Hofstra (21-13) in the Second Round of the West Lafayette sub-regional. All First and Second Round matches will be played at Tully Gym in Tallahassee, Fla. The winner of the Second Round match on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET will advance to the West Lafayette Regional, hosted by Purdue.

Colorado State, under the direction of head coach Tom Hilbert, finished the regular season 21-7 overall and 13-3 in conference play, while San Diego State, led by head coach Deitre Collins-Parker, were also 13-3 in MW action and 23-7 overall. The Rams earned the league's automatic bid for the eighth time. The Aztecs received the MW's 21st at-large berth.

Colorado State has advanced all 14 seasons since the Mountain West formed in 1999. Seven of the nine league institutions have advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament at some point in program history with four advancing as a Mountain West member (Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV).
