Dec. 12, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Eight Mountain West volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Team today. 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year Dana Cranston, a senior outside hitter from Colorado State, was named to the AVCA All-America Third Team.

Cranston's teammates Megan Plourde (Sr., MB) and Brieon Paige (Sr., MB) received Honorable Mention, along with Boise State's Liz Harden (Sr., RS), New Mexico's Chantale Riddle (So., RS), San Diego State's Andrea Hannasch (Sr., MB) and Johnna Fouch (Jr., S), and Wyoming's Jodi Purdy (Sr., OH). Plourde has earned recognition from the national coaches' organization every season of her career (2011 - 3rd team; 2009, 2010 and 2012 - honorable mention). Hannasch and Purdy were honored for the second year in a row.

Eight All-America honorees tie for the most named from the league, matching the record set in 2009. This marks the ninth consecutive season that the Mountain West has had four or more student-athletes recognized with All-America honors. Since 1999, 58 MW student-athletes have garnered All-America status.

Mountain West All-America notes:

* Boise State: Harden is the first Bronco to earn AVCA All-America honors.

* Colorado State: Cranston, Paige and Plourde bring to 28 the number of Rams who have received AVCA All-America honors. Plourde has made the All-America Team four times and is the only honoree in league history to earn a national accolade every season of her career. It is the sixth consecutive season that CSU has placed multiple student-athletes on the team.

* New Mexico: Riddle is the 12th Lobo to earn AVCA All-America honors. It is the fifth straight year that the Lobos have placed a student-athlete on the All-America Team.

* San Diego State: Fouch and Hannasch are the 17th and 18th Aztecs to be named to the AVCA All-America Team. It is the second year in a row that Hannasch has been honored by the coaches' organization.
