Three Mountain West Student-Athletes Named To 2016 Louisville Slugger All-America Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – Three Mountain West student-athletes were named to the 2016 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Air Force pitcher Griffin Jax earned second-team accolades, while Air Force outfielder Tyler Jones and New Mexico third baseman Carl Stajduhar garnered third-team honors.
Jax, a two-time All-Mountain West selection and 2016 MW Co-Pitcher of the Year, finished the season with a league-leading 2.05 earned run average with a 9-2 record in 105.1 innings pitched. Jax, a junior, allowed just 24 earned runs in 15 appearances, walked 20 batters and struck out 90.
Jones, an All-MW first-team honoree, hit .360 over 57 games with 80 hits, 64 runs batted in and a league-leading 19 home runs. A junior, Jones scored 53 runs, was walked 16 times and hit 13 doubles and two triples. He was recently named to the 2016 MW All-Tournament Team.
Stajduhar, the 2016 MW Tony Gwynn Player of the Year and a two-time All-MW selection, batted .348 in 59 games and continues his season on Friday, June 3 at the NCAA Lubbock Regional. A sophomore, Stajduhar has scored 51 runs and drove in a league-leading 66 runs on 85 hits with 28 walks. He hit 17 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs.
