Three Mountain West Student-Athletes Named To 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team
TUCSON, Ariz. – Three Mountain West student-athletes were named to the 2016 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I Freshman All-American baseball teams by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Mountain West Co-Freshmen of the Year Nic Ready of Air Force and Kyle Isbel of UNLV were joined by New Mexico’s Andrew Pratt.
Ready, a third baseman/designated hitter, was named to the Mountain West All-Conference Second Team for his rookie performance. He hit .329 on the season with six home runs and 53 runs batted in. His 77 hits was an Air Force freshman record and his 234 at bats was a Falcon season record. Ready ranked fourth on the team with 44 runs scored and was third with 17 doubles.
Isbel, also a third baseman and a MW All-Conference Second Team honoree, led UNLV in at-bats (232), runs scored (38), triples (eight) and total bases (103) in his first collegiate campaign. He was second among the Rebels in batting average (.319), hits (74), RBIs (28) and slugging percentage (.444). Isbel had five multiple-RBI games with a season-best five runs driven in against New Mexico on May 8.
Pratt became New Mexico’s starting catcher midway through the season when injury to another player presented the opportunity. Prior to May 1, Pratt had only made six starts before taking over the starting role. He finished the Lobos’ season batting .326 and slugged .565 over 92 at-bats. He recorded 16 RBIs, five home runs and seven doubles. His home runs came in the last 10 games of the season.
