LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV men’s tennis team won’t have to go far to compete in its first NCAA Regional since 2007 as the Rebels found out they will play in Los Angeles as the field for the 132nd Annual Division I Men’s Tennis Championship was announced on Tuesday.
Mountain West Conference champion UNLV (15-9) will face 11th-ranked host USC (15-6) on Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m at the Marks Stadium. The following day, the winner of that match will take on the winner of 33rd-ranked Georgia Tech (16-8), an at-large choice from the Atlantic Coast Conference, vs. 46th-ranked and Big West champion UC Santa Barbara (17-6).
Champions of the regionals will advance to the NCAA Round of 16, which will be played May 20-24 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.

“It’s really exciting to be in the regionals and have the opportunity to play at USC against one of the top programs in college tennis,” said head coach Owen Hambrook. “It’s a great opportunity for the guys. We are going to go down there this next week and give it our best. We are really looking forward to it.”
The Rebels last played the Trojans on Jan. 28, 2012, which resulted in a 7-0 win by USC. Altogether, this is the USC men’s program's 38th all-time NCAA appearance, and the Trojans boast more men’s team titles than any other program with 21 to date. UNLV, which is the lone MW representative in the men’s bracket, will be making its eighth NCAA trip all-time and holds a record of 3-7 in team play. While the Rebels have played in Los Angeles for the NCAA tournament a previous three times (1994, ‘95, and ’07), this marks the first time on the campus of USC.
With the UNLV women’s team having earned an automatic bid to its bracket, both the Rebels and Lady Rebels are in the NCAA tournament in the same season for only the fourth time in history, along with 1997, ’98, and ‘07.
The fields for the individual singles and doubles tournaments, which will take place at the same site from May 25-30 after team play concludes, will be announced on Wednesday.
