COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV head coach Kevin Cory has been named 2016 Mountain West Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year. This is the third time Cory has earned this honor and the first since 2002. His first coach of the year honor came in 2000.

This season, the Rebels compiled a 24-1 record, including 5-1 in MW play, and a Conference championship, their first since 2013. UNLV, currently ranked No. 72 in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Women’s Tennis Rankings, defeated No. 47 Fresno State in the MW Championship match 4-2. Cory, who is in his 17th year of coaching, led the Rebels to a program-record 19 consecutive wins to open the season and helped produce the 2016 MW Freshman of the Year in Aiwen Zhu.

The Rebels will continue their season on Friday, May 13 as they take on 20th-ranked USC in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. This will be UNLV’s first NCAA appearance since 2013 and 12th overall.
