Fresno State, Wyoming Among 16-Team CBI Field
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State and Wyoming have accepted invitations to participate in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational. With New Mexico and San Diego State bound for the NCAA Tournament, that brings to four the number of Mountain West teams advancing to postseason action in 2013-14.
Both the Bulldogs and Cowboys will play their CBI first-round games in the state of Texas on Wednesday, March 19. Fresno State travels to UTEP for a 7 p.m. MT matchup, while Wyoming visits Texas A&M for a 7 p.m. CT tip.
This marks Fresno State's first appearance in the CBI and first postseason tournament since falling in the opening round of the 2007 NIT. The Bulldogs have advanced to the postseason 19 previous times, including 10 NCAA tournaments and nine National Invitation Tournaments (NIT).
Wyoming is making its third-straight trip to the CBI, and fourth overall. The Pokes lost a CBI opening-round matchup in 2009 before advancing to the quarterfinals each of the last two seasons. This is Wyoming’s 26th appearance in a postseason tournament, including 14 NCAA, eight NIT and four CBI berths. Head coach Larry Shyatt has now guided Wyoming to the postseason in each of his four seasons at UW, including an appearance in the 1998 NIT versus Gonzaga.
One of the CBI’s eight first-round games will commence on Tuesday with the remaining seven being played on Wednesday. The quarterfinal round will take place on Monday, March 24, with the semifinal round set to be played on Wednesday, March 26. The best-of-three championship series begins on Monday, March 31. Each game will be played on the campus site of the host institution.
