LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The Mountain West announced the 2023 men’s tennis all-conference teams and individual awards on Tuesday evening, as selected by the league’s seven coaches.

New Mexico’s Arda Azkara was the tabbed the MW Player of the Year by the Conference coaches. Azkara compiled a 16-8 overall record, including 14-5 in dual action, and 6-0 in Mountain West play, while competing in the No. 1 singles flight. In doubles, the sophomore is 11-6 overall, 9-5 dual and 5-0 at No. 1 in MW play. Azkara, who is the second Lobo to win player of the year honors in the last three years, was named Mountain West Player of the Week two times this season.

Air Force’s Phillip Deaton has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year after recording a 14-4 overall record, including 3-2 in Conference play at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles. In doubles, the freshman is 8-8 overall, with a 2-3 record in MW action. Deaton is the first Falcon to win an “of the year” award since 2006 (Shannon Buck, player of the year).
