COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Arda Azkara was tabbed the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while rookie teammate Avery Tallakson was named the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
On the women’s side, New Mexico’s Leonie Hoppe earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor, while San José State’s Cheuk Ying Shek garnered the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week nod.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ARDA AZKARA, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Ismet, Turkey
- The junior went 5-0 on the week with two No. 1 singles wins and three No. 1 doubles wins.
- Against Wichita State, logged a straight-sets victory in singles (6-4, 6-3) and a 6-3 win in doubles.
- Against UNC Wilmington, posted an 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in singles and a 6-1 victory in doubles.
- Had the clinching singles wins against both Wichita State and UNC Wilmington.
- Against then-No. 71 William & Mary, registered a 6-2 doubles win.

- Recorded a 3-1 week, 2-0 at No. 6 singles and 1-1 at No. 3 doubles with one doubles match unfinished.
- Against Wichita State, logged a 6-4, 6-1 victory in his singles match.
- Against then-No. 71 William & Mary, notched a set of wins in singles and doubles, 6-2, 6-2 singles victory and a 6-3 doubles win.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

- Helped the Lobos to a 2-0 week in Conference play with wins over UNLV (4-3) and Colorado State (4-2).
- Against the Rebels, logged a set of wins at No. 1 doubles (6-0) and No. 5 singles (7-6 [7-4], 7-5).
- Against the Rams, posted a No. 5 singles victory, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
